Stress headaches are present in millions of Americans and many others worldwide suffer from them as well. Stress can be a number of things, but often involve pushing your body to the limit and then some. Excess work, exercise, or intense situations all increase the stress hormone in your body. These headaches are also known as tension headaches. Environmental and physical stress can cause these headaches to trigger, as well as mental stress. These headaches can increase in severity and become debilitating in your daily life. Missing work or school may occur if it isn’t treated quickly enough.

Chronic tension headaches, or stress headaches, are often present in those who work long hours without enough relaxation. Basically, anything that can put your body under stress is likely to cause a stress related migraine or headache. This can be anything ranging from adrenaline rush roller coasters, to worrying about finances.

Adolescents are especially susceptible to stress headaches because of all the things they go through in daily life. Peer pressure and pressure to do school work adds up and causes headaches. On the downside this also decreases quality work performance and can lead to serious depression in young adults. If they do not fix the problem early on they set themselves up for more trouble in college or the work environment. Doing so can be highly destructive to an otherwise productive persons lifestyle. Even releasing some workload or extracurricular can fix the problem. Antidepressant treatments are not recommended for teenagers in most cases because of the increased suicidal feeling. Other treatments can be discussed with the primary physician.

The dangerous thing about these headaches is that they are often paired with high blood pressure and in some cases, obesity or weight gain. Individuals who are constantly in a state of stress have higher rates of early mortality, and high blood pressure can cause heart attacks. Since they cause insomnia or poor sleep conditions, your body becomes at risk for even more health problems. Muscle weakness, irritability, and difficulty concentrating are also common.

Chronic stress headaches aren’t life threatening but they are threatening to the overall health of your wellbeing and whole body. When one condition triggers others, it becomes dangerous for your arteries, heart, brain, and muscle groups.

Non prescription, or in some cases prescription, pain relievers are given as a treatment option. This isn’t fool proof though, because they often cause even more headaches. Proper stress management is the only cure for these types of headaches, and it’s very important to keep it under control. Therapy and antidepressants can be useful in controlling the deeply rooted symptoms. Alternative therapy is recommended and is proven to be beneficial in some cases. There are plenty of options for treatment and cure of these conditions, but not all are suited for everyone. Your doctor will be able to help you define a plan to reduce the frequency of the pain so that you can manage your life better.
